The Water Industry Approved Plumbers’ Scheme (WIAPS) is funded by sixteen water suppliers in England and Wales and operates an approved contractors’ scheme on their behalf. In order to become a member of WIAPS applicants have to demonstrate they have appropriate qualifications (including knowledge of the Water Regulations), hold adequate insurance cover and can satisfy the scheme’s other entry level requirements as set by the water industry.
Should training and assessment, in the knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations specific to each sector, be required through the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme Ltd. (WRAS Ltd.), a charge will apply.
WIAPS is a partner of WaterSafe an online directory of approved plumbing businesses and a national brand covering seven approved contractors’ schemes across the UK. Upon gaining full (Approved Plumber) membership of WIAPS, members will be offered the chance to be a part of WaterSafe. WaterSafe membership gives approved plumbers extra promotion online and on the job with endorsement from water suppliers. It also gives their customers peace-of-mind that they will get a qualified and competent professional every time.
Water suppliers often get asked by their customers to recommend a plumber. On request, they will provide their customers with details of Approved Plumbers.
